Pinup of the Month January 2018 - Rockin' Red

Well it's January now and here to get your year off to a red hot start is Miss Rockin' Red from Adelaide, Australia! She's a Rock and Roll dancing queen with a modern pinup style and a fondness for big hair.

Vintage replica dress supplied by Lenny's Custom Clothing

How did you choose your Pinup name?

I love rock and roll dancing and have always been recognised for my red hair, I wanted to incorporate the two into a pinup name, it took me a few weeks of research on other pinup names for inspiration and talking to friends when I finally came up with 'Rockin'' (the dancing part) and 'Red' (for my red hair).

Why do you love pinup?

I love the style of pinup as it is so feminine and suits all women of all ages, body types and styles. There are so many different styles of pinup that cater for everyone's interests. I feel women have a great vibe about them and confidence when they dress up in the pinup style. I am also hoping to venture into more of the vintage styling too as I do a lot of modern pinup at the moment, I love the 1940s and 1950s clothing.

Would you like to share your favourite beauty tip?

I love big hair, never be scared to style BIG! Flowers, headbands, hair pieces, clip-ins, extensions, the potential is endless. Play around with your hair and you never know what you will create!

What’s your favourite aspect of the Pinup and Rockabilly subculture?

My favourite aspect of the whole scene would be the rock and roll dancing, this is where I started out just on year ago. I am currently learning to incorporate rockabilly and swing into my rock and roll dancing, it keeps me fit and I adore the music. I have entered two competitions so far, Alleycatz in Melbourne and the NSW State Titles in Sydney.

When did you know that pinup was the right thing for you?

I hadn't given a lot of thought to entering any pinup competitions even though I admired the women who did. I love the style and thought I could never style myself as well as they did, the rock and roll dancing was number one for me. I had numerous people encourage me to enter into the pinup competitions as they liked my styling and thought I looked like a pin up already! My first competition was in August 2017 where I came second in Adelaide Rock and Roll Club's Pinup Night #2.

What advice would you like to give to new pinups?

I would advise new pinups to play around with all styles, vintage, modern, psychobilly, rockabilly, etc, try them all and find which one you like the best and build on it from there.

Favourite business shoutout!

I would like to give a big shoutout to the local Adelaide businesses here:

Some of my favourite brands include:

If you could be a Disney villain or princess, who would you be?

All my friends would compare me to Ariel, because of my red hair, although I hate swimming in the sea so I don't think that would work out haha

What's your favourite season?

My favourite season would be spring, perfect for Rock and Roll dancing and also wearing beautiful dresses, light cardigans and petticoats without getting too warm.
