Say hello to July Pinup of the Month winner, Miss Trixie Mae. Trixie hails from Petersburg USA, has a million dollar smile and gorgeous green tresses and is a member of Pinup girl gang, the Hott Totties!
How did you choose your Pinup name?
I chose my pinup name because Trixie is the name my father wanted to give me and everyone always tells me i like a Trixie. And Mae was grandmother's middle name. She is part of the reason i love dressing up! The woman was always dressed to the nines with her beehive hair
Why do you love pinup?
I love pinup for the fun and creative outlet it gives me. I have always been one to stand out and do my own thing. Whether that was by crazy clothes, haircuts, or even hair color. With pinup everyone accepts me for all of my quirks. And i want others to feel that same thing! To be proud of who you are! Because normal is boring.
Would you like to share your favourite beauty tip?
As a hairdresser my favorite beauty tip to give is find a good hairspray, Bobby pins and when you curl your hair don't touch the curls til they have cooled because if you don't you just undid all your hard work. Letting them cool gives them time to set properly.
What’s your favourite aspect of the Pinup and Rockabilly subculture?
The sisterhood!! I recently lost a friend from my pinup group. And the way everyone rallied together to help raise money for the family and to check on me was amazing. It's been a crazy month. And I love knowing that so many people loved her and or was moved by her story that it impacted their life a little. I hope to continue to spread the confidence and friendship it gave my friend Adrienne. That someone else can feel the way she did about pinup!! I'm also so thankful especially for my pinup gang the Hott Tottie's. They have became some of my best friends. The bond we have is something i cherish. It's what brought me my friend.
When did you know that pinup was the right thing for you?
I've always loved vintage, old cars, and old movies. But I grew up in a tiny farm town. I graduated with a class of 20 in high school. I didn't know that people dressed like this. I had never seen it before. 10 years ago was my first time seeing it when we went to the LA Roadster Show in California. And about 5 years ago when we went again I really started to look into it more. And then i was hooked I love everything about it from the clothes, hair, jewelry, and accessories. And being a car girl and traveling for shows i started to see more of it and had to try it out. And everyone is so inviting and nice. They are also the best supporters and confidence boosters!!
What advice would you like to give to new pinups?
Always be you!! Normal is overrated. Who cares if you have bright green hair or the sparkliest dress in the room! If it makes you happy that is all that matters!! So be extra, be kind, and most importantly have fun!!
